According to journalist Tom Barclay, Ralph Hasenhuttl could be sacked at Southampton if they replicate their poor form from the second half of last season.

The Saints have had a poor start to the season. Their only win in 90 minutes was against Newport County in the Carabao Cup, and they have just four points after six Premier League games (Sky Sports).

As such, the pressure has increased on Hasenhuttl, with many supporters questioning his ability to lead the side.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Barclay has provided an update on the Austrian’s future on the south coast. He said:

“If things go like they did in the second half of last season and happen again, he would be in trouble.”

The Verdict: Things must change

There was once positivity about Hasenhuttl’s reign at St Mary’s – after all, they started last season positively and even reached the FA Cup semi-finals. However, two 9-0 defeats under his tutelage and a 15th-placed league finish last time around meant that he came into this campaign already under pressure.

Little has changed given their early season form. No wins from six league games is hardly encouraging, and the departures of Jannik Vestergaard, Ryan Bertrand and Danny Ings appear to have been heavily felt so far. Things must change for the Saints, and fast, otherwise Hasenhuttl could well be given his marching orders in the near future, as Barclay has warned.
